Tennis inspires motivation in junior

Although the individual tennis season hasn’t begun, members of the team are working hard, especially Thao L.(2013).

She has a lot on her plate — academically, physically, and mentally. Now more than ever she has to prove to herself that she is worthy of being ranked the No. 1 girl on the team — the person who the other girls can look up to.

“I really don’t try to prove anything to the teammates, I just show them my dedication to practice,” she said.

Thao said that tennis brings out the best in her.

“Tennis is beneficial to me because it helps me stay fit, get my grades up to where they’re suppose  to be, and it helps me to discipline myself,” she said.

Not only is she looking forward to this new season, which will begin next semester in the spring, but  she is also hoping to fulfill her goal of adding her  name on the MVP plate. The MVP plate has the names of students who have accomplished difficult but rewarding tasks in sports; their names are engraved on the plate for years to come for other students to see.

“It’s an achievement thing, by all my hard work paying off, knowing how much I practiced and tried throughout the years that I have played,” Thao  said.

Even though majority of her friends are involved in tennis, they’re not her motivation for playing.

“My friends aren’t really the reason why I play tennis,”she said.”I play tennis because I like it and it’s fun.”

But she didn’t consider seriously playing on the team until she was influenced by her older siblings: Trang L.(20o3′), Boi L. (2008′), Choung L. (2010).

“My siblings influenced me by taking me with them to play when they still played tennis,”she said. “ My second oldest brother helps me by taking me to play with his friends, so I can get more practice.”

Ever since then, she has been dedicated to tennis.

“For the past five years I have  given most of my effort to this game,” Thao said.

She is sure that there is no possible way that there is anything that can hold her back from reaching her goal.

“My goal and challenges haven’t changed since I have begun high school,” she said.

Although she likes playing tennis now she said, she has ” decided that I will not continue to play in college but  I ensure myself that I am still going to play tennis as a hobby with friends.”
