On November 16. Alief ISD hosted the third annual Alief Idol singing competition. David Morales, a Mata Intermediate fifth-grader contestant takes first place in this year’s contest within the elementary/intermediate division.

“I think it was really cool to go on stage,” says Morales. “I was able to show people what I am and my talent I worked hard to get”.

Unlike the other students in Morales’s division, this was his second time returning on the Alief Idol stage. Morales took part in the last Alief Idol competition but had won second place by a close shot. Things fared differently with him achieving first place in this year’s contest and Morales was determined to win this time.

“I won second place last year, but I had fun singing on stage and I had fun this time too,” said Morales. “When I got second place last time, I knew I could do better”.

Morale’s family had helped him set up the environment for him to practice while also guiding him to fix the mistakes Morales himself saw do.

“My dad helped make time for me to practice during the summer and before this competition with the guitar that I always had,” said Morales. “I would spend a lot of time in my room singing with my guitar almost every day and I’m proud of what I won because of it”.
