Style Through Book Bags at Hastings

A major trend of this year, mainly because of social media, is self expression through style. Students at Hastings love to come in style and one way of showing out is their back packs. Although accessories are mainly for style they can also have meaning. Disclaimer from Writer: I asked my friends for the story behind their bags, some parts might seem like I’m being complimented a lot but that is just because I am a really good friend.

"I like astrology a lot so that's why I got the back pack. I got the clown key chain because I really like clowns. Both my pins are heroes because I'm really into comics and super heroes. I got the Spider Punk from Justin, my favorite person gave me my favorite spider man (this sentence is all Krystal and not edited at all by Justin). I like to collect little like knickknacks so I used some to make the rest of my key chains. Like the heart key chain is actually the lock from one of my old diaries. I also have a guitar because I play the guitar and I have a red car because my dad used to be a mechanic so its sentimental."

“ I got it when I lived at my dad’s house. I was having a pretty bad day and I wanted to go thrifting because that’s like one of my pick-me-ups. It was about two weeks before school started so I wanted to maybe try and find something so I didn’t have to use my pink backpack, and I came across the red backpack. At first, I wasn’t gonna get it, but I really like the texture of it and just the whole aesthetic. The sun symbol was just bleached on because I’m really into the sun, and so I really like adding it to my clothes and stuff. I feel really connected to the sun, which is also why I got it tattooed. I stole both the pins, and the baby key chain was given to me by Krystal, and the red squishmallow was something Krystal and I got together. without Justin because he was busy, we wish he would have came though :(“

“I got my backpack for $5 at a yard sale. When I was going to pay for it, the man told me he didn’t have change, so I had to drive back home, get exactly $5, drive back and get the bag — that’s how much I loved it. It’s really light and I like it because my laptop fits inside perfectly. The few pins I have on it, I think, describe me pretty well. I love the Astros and Moth Man (purple pin ). I also have a Boba Fett pin which shows my love for Star Wars. I had a few more pretty big enamel ones of The Mandalorian, The Armorer, and Obi-Wan Kenobi but removed them in fear of them falling off. The orange one is handmade and says “Shaniac” , a reference to Ghost Files, which just means I’m not a firm believer in ghosts (though I do think they’re cool , as seen by my ghost pin). But the thing that people always notice first is my bunny keychain. It’s super soft, and it was given to me by my friend Litzy! Justin is also great!!“

“ I got my back pack from Dick’s Sporting Goods at the beginning of the school year. Last year I had a big back pack and it was annoying so that’s why I got this one because it’s smaller. I have three pins: SpongeBob because I grew up watching it, Spider-Man because I love Spider-Man, if you couldn’t tell, and a cat, which I have matching with my boyfriend. The small spider man is from my friend’s business I love to support my friends. The Yoshi is from my friend, the Spider-Man is from my boyfriend, and the Buc-ee’s plushie is something me and my soccer team got together because it’s our last year. Justin’s gifts are too special so I keep them inside my back pack so they don’t get stolen. ”

“ Why is this my backpack? Well, because I want to be basic and follow the crowd. The real reason I bought this backpack out of all other backpacks is its simplicity, it’s not too large, yet not to small, just a perfect fit for me. Plus it’s made from Carhartt, a very well known brand, known for its high quality. Some little details I added myself are my Lugia plushie, Texas pin because I’m from Texas, yeah, Doom pin because he is one of my favorite artists, and a cat pin because I like cats 😀 My giant Justin pin hasn’t come in yet but that is also something I hope to add soon!!!”
