Hastings Bears, in a morale victory against the highly ranked Pearland Oilers, came up short by one point. Bears lost 41-42 to the Oilers after Peter Mckey scored a free throw which put them in the lead 41-40. However, when pearland placed a layup within the final seconds, they ended the game ahead by one point.

Pearland Oilers are ranked first in the district, while the Bears are ranked fourth. With Pearland being so highly ranked, many fans can agree that the Bears put up a good fight.

“I could barely tell the difference between the rankings because they were constantly tied. I honestly felt like we had a better performance than the oilers but obviously the score says otherwise.” says Jordan Carmichael.

Although the Bears took a tough loss, there were many highlights in the game. Six-foot six power forward, Oscar Banks slammed 2 dunks which sent the audience roaring. In addition, six foot point guard, Peter Mckey scored 21 points along with 2 assists and 1 rebound. Not to mention, five-foot eleven shooting guard, Caleb Phillips used his athleticism and knowledge of the game to read the court and carry out the most reliable plays.

Along with the energy on the court, there was a lot of enthusiasm throughout the audience as well. The fans were so electrified that security was called to escort the Oilers as they exited the gym in chaos.

“It’s cool to see the support that the team gets from their fans. I feel like the spirit from the crowd gives them the energy to play even better.” says Nia James.
